A Parish Council

A Parish Council exists to discuss community matters, but it can only do that which it is empowered by law to do. The laws relating to the constitution, creation and dissolution of local councils is contained in the Local Government Act 1972.

Selston Parish Council should consist of 21 elected members representing all parts of the parish and it is  headed by a Chair person. Parish Councillors’ contributions to parish life is entirely voluntary.

The day-to-day business of the Council is managed by the Parish Clerk, who is responsible for ensuring that the Parish Council fulfils its legal obligations and does not act beyond its powers. The Clerk is a paid employee.  Selston Parish Council also employs an Assistant Clerk who supports the Clerk in her role and also an Admin Assistant who supports the Clerk with her financial responsibilities, but also manages facility bookings.

Scheduled Parish Council meetings are held monthly, usually on the last Monday of every month. Members of the public are welcome to attend and anyone wishing to address the Council can do so on items of the agenda. If you have any queries regarding meetings or specific issues of concern, please speak to the Clerk or Assistant Clerk.
